"Malawi School of Government Takes Action to Fill Skills Gaps in Public Service"
Malawi School of Government (MSG) has initiated a comprehensive training program aimed at addressing skill gaps among senior managers in the public sector, aiming to enhance efficiency and tackle emerging challenges.
Named the Malawi Public Service Leadership Milestone Programme, this initiative focuses on three main areas: understanding the Malawi public service context, equipping leaders with the necessary knowledge and skills for effective public sector governance, and fostering personal development and ethical leadership within the public service.
Asiyati Chiweza, Director General of MSG, emphasized the significance of the program in fostering self-awareness and enhancing productivity among public servants. She highlighted the importance of the third segment, which concentrates on personal development and ethical decision-making, covering aspects such as emotional intelligence, public speaking, retirement planning, wealth creation, and ethical decision-making.
Developed in collaboration with Chandler Institute of Governance (CIG) and Cambridge Governance Labs, the three-week training program aims to transfer knowledge and professionalism to leaders in the Malawian civil service. Wu Wei Neng, CEO of CIG and Dean of the Chandler Academy of Governance (CAG), underscored the goal of developing essential skills and professionalism within the Malawi public service.
The initiative marks a significant step towards bridging skill gaps and enhancing leadership capabilities within the public sector, contributing to overall institutional efficiency and effectiveness.
